Story, they are custom settings in Story mode, set by the devs, no Custom settings for payers to adjust. There is no 1:1 match on the experience modes Survival vs. The main differences are loot quantity and quality (you will always get everything you need to complete all main story quests- the game is designed to make sure you can finish each episode, though it will make you search around at times to find an item or 2.), the weather gets harsher as you go up from Green>Capable>Hardened, % condition of loot and clothing will be less as you go up, ect.Īgain, I recommend starting on Capable, and moving up to Hardened if it seems too easy. No matter what mode you choose, you will get the weapons at the same point in the story progression in each one. It is a completely different mode, and loot, skills and some gameplay is quite different. You will get access to weapons in a scripted way, it is not "Survival mode + narrative". (You can play them in any order, out of order, whatever, but you cannot change settings once you start an episode.)Īs far as rifle, knife, ect- Story Mode is not like Survival mode. If it's too easy, you can always restart early on, or finish the episode and choose Capable Survivor for episodes 2 & 3, since each is a stand alone game, not dependent on the previous episode. I'd suggest trying out Capable Survivor in Story Mode for Episode 1. The mechanics are similar to Survival mode, but not exactly the same, (Skill books are different, for instance, and you have main story quests and optional side quests in Wintermute, something you don t have in survival Mode). You will get tutorial texts for almost every mechanic.
Episode 1 will be somewhat easier, since it is a tutorial level. Hardened survivor in Wintermute Story Mode is a mix of Interloper and Stalker with better loot,and no permadeath.
